Seattle Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center (MMPC)
MMPC is located within the UW South Lake Union campus and uses mice for studying disease and other pathologies within mice (the results of which are somehow expected to relate to human physiology); they give mice diabetes until their kidneys fail, force heart attacks, induce hardening of arteries, or restrict blood flow to study their effects. Within other mice their carotid artery (within the spine) is snapped to practice ligation. Other mice are also subjected to painful bone marrow transplants. Many are killed to study the tissues and cell structures after suffering from the various pathologies induced upon them.
